Château Ducru-Beaucaillou

The first traces of the domain date back to the thirteenth century. The castle will be for centuries the property of the Bergeron family until 1720. The castle passes in 1795 under the control of the Ducru family, whose domain then takes the name. Bertrand Ducru then undertakes to modify deeply the castle (with the help of the architect Paul Abadie) and the wine-making facilities (new cellars). The consecration of these efforts will be made with the attribution of status of second grand cru in the classification of 1855. 

In 1866, the castle is sold to the family of Nathaniel Johnston (1836-1914), a wine merchant, mayor and deputy of St. Julien. The financial crisis of 1929 forced the Johnston family to sell the estate to the Desbarats family, which after only twelve years had to give it over to the Borie family, still the owner of the castle.
