Aveleda S.A is owned by the same family, the Guedes, for 5 generations. Today, the company is run by two descendants of the 5th generation of the family, António Azevedo Guedes and Martim Guedes. Since its foundation in 1870, the passion for winemaking, for the sustainable treatment of the surrounding environment, for biodiversity and for the attention to detail are still the guiding principles of the group. These pillars are at the core of the production of quality wines and creation of renowned brands like Aveleda, Adega Velha, Quinta Vale D. Maria, Quinta D'Aguieira Follies and Casal Garcia. The group is active in 3 different wine regions in Portugal, Douro, Vinho Verde and Bairrada wine regions. The company is the biggest producer and exporter of Vinho Verde in Portugal, exporting to more than 80 countries all over the world.
1870 is the year where the first wine was produced at Quinta da Aveleda. Twenty years later, the wines would win their first international awards, an omen of the success that was to come in the following years. During the 20th century the first exports of wine were made to Brazil and Angola, the famous Casal Garcia would be launched in the late 30s and the Aveleda brand would see an enormous growth, never losing sight of its ancient legacy.
