Isola di Gorgona
Gorgona 2019
Toscana - igt

Cépage Vermentino
Ansonica
Elevage 7 months in stainless steel tank

Description

On the island of Gorgona, the smallest of the Tuscan archipelago, 29 km west of Livorno, there is a grape variety of Vermentino and Ansonica, varieties that have acclimatised perfectly to the island.

"Gorgona" is a white wine born of the collaboration between Marchesi de' Frescobald and the island's penitentiary institute. Frescobaldi's agronomists and oenologists have collaborated with the inmates, transferring their professional skills to them, which they can use at the end of their period of imprisonment in order to reintegrate more easily into society.

The Gorgona wine comes from a small vineyard of about one hectare, located in the only area protected from strong sea winds, in the heart of an amphitheatre overlooking the sea.

The vineyard is managed according to organic farming methods by the prison's inmates.

Tasting

Eye : Light yellow colour with golden accents.

Nose : A complex and expressive bouquet with notes of honey, a little papaya and discreet touches of wild herbs, as well as hints of lemon zest and a touch of minerality.

Palate : wonderfully rich and aromatic, dominated by citrus fruits, lime and orange peel, followed by white peach, lychee, almonds and distinctly mineral notes; pleasant, supple and precise structure; very well balanced and fresh through to the medium-long finish.

Food pairing : Perfect with vitello tonnato, minestrone, fritti misit, as well as beef broth, mortadella and pasta carbonara. You can also enjoy it with strong cheeses and smoked meat.

Serving : between 9 and 12 degrees
