The grapes used for Quinta Vale D. Maria Douro Red come from the Quinta's original 10 hectares.

They have an average age of 60 years and are planted with 41 different grape varieties, including Tinta Amarela, Rufete, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Francisca, Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional, Sousão, and many others.

The vineyards are oriented towards the south, south south, south east, south west, east and west.
