Maison Joseph Drouhin
Meursault 1er Cru - Charmes 2018
aoc

Cépage Chardonnay
Sol limestone and clay
Elevage 12 months in barrels (25% new)

Description

To the south of the village, the famous slope has a particular terroir, the Charmes, once lined with bunches of this species, as opposed to the Perrières, a soil of white, angular pebbles, just above the road.

Some commentators have seen the word "Charmes" as a description of the wine, and others as an appreciation of the pleasant work in a vineyard with a gentle slope, an unobstructed view and plenty of sunshine.

Tasting

"From the outset, the appearance of the wine illustrates its name, a prodigy of the great Meursault wines which are golden without being yellow.

The nose, both concentrated and elegant, full without being heady, evokes in turn almonds, bread from the oven, hot croissants, then fine spices, and finally grilled dried fruits.

The flavours are, by their harmony, equal to the aromas. Round without heaviness, with a good acidity that melts without being biting, silky without the domination of alcohol, the wine develops in the mouth, blossoms to a very long finish that refers to the precious aromas that formed the bouquet: almond paste and warm brioche".
